« Above Mirror, 18th century Venetian Carved and gilded wood, polychrome lacquer and mother of pearl, 166+119 cm Aveline & quénetain, £4000,000. Marella Rossi of the grand Parisian furniture dealership Aveline joins forces with Christophe de Quénetain for their joint TEFAF debut. Their stand designed by Pierre Yovanovitch, is resolutely modern, but at its hearth arte the decorative arts of the 18th century. This opulent mirror is richly ornamented with crisply carved foliage, flowers and scrolls, and delicate lacquerwork with mother of perl inlays and cabochons of faux lapis. It is rare for such a piece to survive completely intact given that this kind of ornate gilt pediment was often removed at the end of the 18th century when it was no longer fashionable. Similar examples are in the Museo Civico di Storia ed Arte in Trieste and the National Gallery, Prague. »
